David on Q100 Atlanta

Listen here. Thanks, FOD. I can't figure out how to record things. :(

DAVID IS TALKING OVER JEFF AND I LOVE IT.

LIKE HOW MUCH MORE PROOF DO YOU NEED THAT THOSE RUMORS ARE RIDICULOUS.

AHAHAHA.

Jeff: "Yeah, this group didn't have much controversy --"
David: "YEAH, NO NAUGHTY PICTURES OF PEOPLE."
Amy: "..."

There are three Archies in the Q100 studio and they think that David is calling in for an interview and is not actually in the studio. They have to explain to him via phone in sixty seconds why they are the biggest Archie for a chance to meet him. Whoever he picks wins a chance to fly down to Houston to meet David. Well, little do they know that David is actually in the studio and they get to meet him.

On the whirlwind of the past year.

David: It's crazy to see how you went from not a ton of people knowing who you are to a lot of people knowing who you are. From working on an album to going on tour. Just a lot of different things. It's crazy, I've always wanted to make my own album and go on my own tour. And it's like wow. It already happened.

Think it would happen this young?

David: No, maybe in 10 years. I'm still thinking about, what am i going to do with myself. And college and what classes I want to take. Still trying to think what Iwant to do with music and to get further ahead. And wow, it's here already.

Michael Johns was in the studio last week.

David: Michael Johns is most impressed that you showed up to his bday party. Aww, it was fun. Oh, man. He's a character, that guy. He's fun. He's a partyer. He's a good guy. There were a lot of people from the show and the tour that I haven't seen. Cook and Chikezie and Brooke and Jason were there. There were lots of balloons.

Each fan is going to come up one by one and give you a sixty second pitch. And the winner is going to be sent to houston to the show. And you are the decider of who has the deepest connection with you. You will also see a video to see what they are wearing.

Karen: Today is my birthday. I want to tell you how I weathered the storm for David. You came to Atlanta, but I didn't get to see you because of the Larry King Live Show. I had my gift and posters for you. I was devastated because I couldn't see you, so I looked for the next Saturday show. And it was in Bridgeport, Connecticut which is my hometown. So we went up there and had an Archie weekend. My boyfriend even wore a shirt that said 'real men wear archie shirts.' The moral of the storm story was that I braved the weather through tropical storm Ike.

Lynn: Hi David, this is Lynn and Madison. We are going to sing a little bit for you. *Sings Crush* (David is laughing) My whole family are fans. I have two boys and on the night of the AI finale they texted and called in for four hours. I didn't get a chance to talk to you, so it would mean a lot for me to talk to you. My whole family would go, even my husband. I substitute teach and I'm getting the girls to like you. I got a phone call to substitute teach this morning and I told him I was coming here.

Kathleen: Hi David, my name is Kathleen. I just wanted to let you know how you influenced me and my life. My mom passed away 2 years ago when I was a teenager. Tt was very difficult. American Idol was something htat brought up together. But I stopped watching it after she died. And then I saw your audition and you sang John Mayer and my mom was a big John Mayer fan, so I started watching. And then you sang 'Angels.' You have influenced my life and my brother's life. Your spirituality has influenced me so much. I went to Charlotte, Tulsa, and Ford Day. I didn't really get to meet you, just a wicked quick picture at Ford Day.

David Archuleta in the studio.

David: I'm doing well. A little nervous about what is going. Excited, though.

The beauty about David is this is exactly what you saw on American Idol. The bashfullness and humbleness is exactly what you see. He is nervous about picking one!

David: It's bad. They all have like, you know.... You never know how they are going to treat you on the show or after the show. They could be like next group, next season. But they've been very supportive. For the last tour show, some fans actually flew my grandma out to the show. They've became close to the family and my grandma, so it was cool. She was behind the bus, and I was like 'whoa'. It was really cool.

Has anybody ever been critical to you in public?

David: Not in public at least. I don't read the stuff on the internet. I don't like to. There is always gonna be something bad somebody says. They are going to be nice in public. I think it's funny when they are just like mocking all the girls.

We are going to bring these girls in one-by-one. Then we want to talk to you more about the album and single. Lynn is going to be in here and we are going to tell he that there was a video mess-up. And after ten seconds into her pitch, just slowly come on up and put your arm around her shoulder.

Do you always burst into song?

David: I guess so. My friends are like 'you weirdo.'

David, go hide behind the drape. He's so cute. I just want to give him a bear hug. People always say he is so short, but he is taller than I am! *David hides*

Hi, Lynn. We messed up. We just don't have it on video.

Lynn and Madison sings 'Crush.' *David comes out and screaming erupts*

David: Nice to meet you. *little conversation with Lynn*

*David hides again* Look into the camera and make the exact same pitch again.

Kathleen: *goes into story again* David come out and she freaks out.

David came out and lightly tapped her on the shoulder and she freaks out. You almost cursed in front of David Archuleta. No, I almost took the Lord's name in vain in front of David Archuleta. Sorry!

David: Oh, it's fine. It's nice to meet you. In person.

Karen comes in to redo her pitch. *Goes into same story again* *David comes out* Oh, my gosh! Oh, my David! My birthday cake has David's face on it! And my party favors! It has your album release date! So people remember to get your CD. My boyfriend has a shirt. He is 6'5 and 300 lbs and wore an Archie shirt.

David is going to decide who wins and gets the trip to Houston.

*Plays American Idol clips* Do you not like to hear yourself?

David: It's just awkward. I can't watch it. I've tried watching the first one. You learn when you watch, what you can improve. But I just can't watch it. When I saw my face, I had to leave. I used to have to cover my face when I signed. I got a lot better. I was just a weird, a weird person. I've gotten over it, though. I think there are a lot of people like that. But then there are people on the other end who love to watch themselves.

On auditioning

David: Yeah. I wasn't eaven planning on auditioning the summer before last. I had a job and I would have to quit it. I didn't know if I would want to quit it but I decided to go for it and take a chance. I ran lights and sounds at our local park amphitheatre. It was a good choice in the end. Definitely. It was easy. Just little dances and plays. My friends worked there. So it was fun. They ran things well.

Congratulations on all of your success. Are you still in school?

David: I'm a senior still. But I'm doing stuff online. You just do assignments online. It's been fun. It's crazy when you are trying to do.... But on the show for example, it was pretty crazy, overwhelming. You have a minimum amount of time you have to do school. And it just showed how crazy everyday was. You don't have all week to prepare your song. If you're lucky you have time set up to prepare your song. But it's a great experience and I was lucky.

College plans?

David: That just all depends on how this works out. I'm sure it won't last forever. You never know, I guess. You just have to have a back-up plan. This is the #1 thing I want to be doing. If I was in college, this is what I would be doing. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do after this. If I were to go to college, I would still be trying to do music. This is my passion.

Major?

David: An ENT doctor. Ear nose throat. Because I had a lot of issues in the past, where I went to figure out about the whole vocal thing.

On vocal paralysis

David: I felt like I might be getting somewhere with my music and I didn't know how long of a break it would be. It was a couple of years because my voice would wear out. My range dropped about an octave. That is where my really breathy voice... I wasn't as gaspy and weezy before. But I think that is what helped make my sound what it is. It is just more airy. It's dropped, but I stil have a high voice. I'm sure it hasn't changed yet. *laughs nervously*

Oh, puberty.

David: Oh, boy. *lots of nervous giggles*

On Jeff being a proud father

David: Yeah, my family is extremely supportive. They are the ones who raised you and lived your lives with. My siblings have been so supportive. They have been so patient with me having to go around. And they have to deal with stuff at home and I think they've handled it very well. I think they've been really good about that. Very understanding. I think sometimes they are like stop talking. But they are good. Good brothers and sisters.

Jeff: I wish I could be two places. There are times when they call me and need me to be at home. We've been home 16 days since February 1st. It has been a huge sacrafice for my wife and kids, but they are hanging in there.

Are you upset with what they said about you?

Jeff: When David had that one week where he forgot the lyrics. The tabloids just had to have a blame. I wasn't allowed to say anything. David didn't even know what was going on.

David: I didn't even know about it until they started interviewing you about it. You are so focused on the show and school. So I was talking about the normal stuff and they threw that in and I'm like 'huh.' And that ended up being the only thing they wanted to talk about. I'm like, 'are you serious guys?' I think now they realize since I'm out of the bubble, then things are good. When we were shielded in our AI bubble, we didn't come out much.

You should be by your child's side.

David: When you are a minor, you have to have a parent there. At the beginning, three people had to have guardians there. And then I was the only one left. In earlier years, there was usually two minors.

Jeff: There wasn't a lot of controversary with the final 12. Had to make stories and make something controversial.

David sticks up more for you now, than you stick up for him. It's cool. Means you have done a good job as a dad. David is actually bringing all of you down for the show in Texas.

*screams and excitement*

Thanks for playing along!

David: This was fun!

When is the album coming out?

David: November 11th. This is what you look forward to. Every singer's dream. I didn't have a lot of time. But it was a lot of fun. I had the tour and making the album at the same time. But I'm excited. I'm looking forward to hearing what people think and I think there is a nice variety, so it doesn't limit myself.

Are you going to be waiting by the phone to hear from your record company how well your album does?

David: I co-wrote two of the songs on the album. So that was fun. It brings you to a whole new level when you have a piece of it. It is part of your story in there. I just can't wait to keep writing with these amazingly talented songwriters. It's like, I'm not worthy. I just can't wait to write more. I'm sure I'll have enough time. With the next album, I will sit down and write some more and see how it goes.

Thanks a lot!

David: It was fun!

LOL Loved that too, how he totally talked over his Dad. LOL - Wait when did he say that about the nude pictures? What? LOL

Amy said...

I don't remember what he said, actually. Ahaha, it was something about doctored pictures? I dunno. I could possibly have made that up. HEH. I JUST KNOW HE WAS RAMBLING ABOUT SOMETHING AND I WAS LIKE :o

I think he was referring to the fact there were no "naughty" pictures to dig up on the other top 12 contestants, so they picked on David and his Dad.

I think he used the words "naughty pictures"
I love the word naughty!
David talking over Jeff wins.
I heard him do it in another radio interview as well. More like they asked Jeff a question and David answered it before Jeff could get a word in edgewise!

I am proud of Q100 for being pretty awesome, even though I am possibly slightly bitter that I was not chosen, lol.

OH WELL. THERE IS ALWAYS THE JINGLE JAM XD.
